The common room was the part of Ravenclaw Tower Wallis most enjoyed. It contained the hustle and bustle of students of all years and genders just existing as a house. And she thought that was pretty neat. She especially liked the fireplace. Right now, she was waiting for someone she wasn't quite sure what to think about, Michael Corner, for another British Sign Language meeting. They'd started out earlier this year, and Wallis was glad that he wanted to learn more sign language.

She found it easier to talk silently than to do it out loud, so she tried to fingerspell words that they hadn't learned yet. She even had made a list of what she wanted to go over that month. Wallis didn't want to seem too much like a teacher though. She really just wanted to be able to have a conversation without guessing at what the other person was saying. She looked at the Common Room door, expecting him to come in any moment now.

"I dunno," Michael was already telling the doorknocker before it began speaking.

He'd noticed that other people hung around outside the tower, waiting for someone who could answer the knocker's question correctly to turn up. It was a flawed system, but he'd found a way around it, totally by accident.

Michael wasn't good at riddles. He didn't have the right kind of mind for them, and they always had stupid answers, anyway. So after three days at Hogwarts, and half an hour of guessing what lives in water but never gets wet, he'd snapped at the knocker that he didn't know and to just let him in.

Apparently, admitting what you didn't know was a sign of Ravenclaw Cleverness, and now it was also Michael's modus operandi for getting into the tower.

Wallis was waiting for him over by the fireplace, and Michael made a beeline over there, dropping his bag at his feet.

"Hello," he greeted her, remembering to make sure she could see his face.

Wallis was happy that he turned his face to her. She grinned as she said "Hi, Michael." She signed out as she spoke. Then, just signing, she asked "How are you?" A basic phrase, but one she liked to go over. Manners were always very important to Wallis, having grown up in relatively well off society. All the expectations and what not. She patted the seat next to her, to say 'come sit' After that, she asked if he practiced after their previous lesson, hoping that he did. Wallis didn't really talk to him outside of their little arrangements, outside of little nods.

"So what did you want to go over today? I have a few I-D-E-A-S...but it is you learning, after all." she shrugged, hands going slower than average in case he missed anything, spelling out words she didn't think they'd gone over "What's something you really want to S-A-Y?" They had usually gone over more simple things, and they hadn't really done anything that interesting, in terms of words. She didn't find 'who what where and why' all that interesting. Plus she wanted to wait until Michael understood some other words before she gave him a name sign.
